So you’re thinking about renting out your property on a site like Airbnb or VRBO, and you’d like an insider’s perspective on the pros and cons? I got you!
PROS:
+ Flexibility. Rent it out when you want to. Enjoy it yourself when you don’t.
+ High rental income; often even more than if you were to rent it monthly. Consider: One week vacation = $2000. One month rent? Also $2000. (See what I mean?)
+ Numerous tax breaks and deductions
CONS:
- Inconsistent income, especially in the offseason
- You’re responsible for all utility bills, housekeeping, and general maintenance
- More people passing through your doors = Greater risk of damage to your property
